Photos: Governors, Business moguls, others raise N21bn for GEJ's Presidential campaign

PDP Governors, Senators, Business moguls, technocrats and others gathered at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday night December 20th to make financial commitment to support President Jonathan's re-election campaigns.

At the fundraising dinner, 21 PDP Governors donated N50million each which came to N1.05billion. Business owners in the Oil and Gas sector donated N5billion while their counterparts in the Real Estate & Building made a donation of N4billion. Continue...
Players in the Transport and Aviation sector made a pledge of N1billion, those in Agriculture donated N500million while those in the power sector pledged N500m. Board of the Shelter Development Limited donated N250million while players in the Construction sector pledged N310million. Road Construction players pledged N250million while the National Automative Association pledged N450million. The Chairman of the fundraising dinner, Mr Tunde Ayeni made a donation of N2billion while the Chairman of SIFAX group donated 100million. The Rivers state PDP Chapter donated N50million.

Africa's Richest man, Aliko Dangote who was made the Chief Fund Raiser was absent at the event as he is said to be out of Nigeria but his representative, Joseph Makanju promised that the business mogul would make his donation known once he arrives Nigeria.
With all the monies announced at the fundraising dinner as well as those from private individuals, a total of N21.27bn was realized.

President Jonathan afterwards thanked everyone who donated and promised that their donations would not be in vain.

Why didn't these same set of people donate to Nigeria when it was announced that the revenue from petroleum has declined? Better still, how many roads will the total sum raised fix instead of raising the amount of money for a presidential campaign only to be shared among so set of people.

One of the reasons why we can not have a proper political structure in Nigeria is because we allow a few people to hijack a process that’s meant for all. I maintain that Nigeria will only progress when the common man is included in the day to day running of the political agenda of the so called political parties. If truly power belongs to the people, the people should be allowed to have a say in the day to day running of the political system in the country.
We as a people will have a say in the politics that will produce a just and fair leader the day the common man’s 1 naira is included in the fund raising of the so called political parties. Nigerians need to open their eyes to realities and not allow selfish and greedy elite to manipulate them.

I can imagine. The guy is unemployed and has lived in Turkey and the UK during the entire time of the Jonathan administration.

He needs a political appointment to secure his means of livelihood as he retires from football. What best way than to get involved in Nigerian politics. Its a shame that this guy purports to represent the Youth of Nigeria.

I just hope the 'actual youth' of Nigeria doesn't jump on this bandwagon. Cos GEJ getting into power in 2015 is us mortgaging our future away because we refuse to rise up.

In my opinion, it may take any Nigeria about 20 to 30 years of successive good leadership to be the country alot of us desperately desire. However, bring GEJ back would have set us us another 10 years at the least (6 in the past, 4 in the future).

Please vote wisely

Only all these thieving elites like and want Jonathan to continue as president. They're the only ones profiting from the gross corruption in his government,so they want to keep profiting. The ordinary Nigerian is mostly tired of Jonathan and wants him to get out. Most of us on the other side want Buhari. On the side of the opposition, they might not have as much money as this corrupt Jonathan circle, but they already have most of the Nigerian public behind them and most importantly I believe God is with the people.

It is so sad that in a country where a vast number of citizens are suffering a huge sum of money is been raised and would be wasted for an election. The economy is in such a bad state yet these evil men are raising money 4 a mere election.
